Today it was raining outside so indoor playtime is a must. I just got my baby girl gerbil and since she is a lone gerbil she needed some interactment. She has fallen in love with my two boy guinea pigs (marilyn-blondie, karl-black) and they love her too. She grooms them and they sniff and lick her then popcorn away. Its too cute

Lab Animals in Urgent Need of New Homes

Parkland College in Champaign, IL is home to one of the nation’s leading Vet Tech programs. One would think the program would at least respect the animals in its charge. However, the fact of the matter is: Any ‘laboratory’ animal (mouse, rat, rabbit, guinea pig, hamster) not taken to a permanent home at the end of the semester (early December) will be either euthanized and/or sent to a laboratory.

These animals are beautiful and healthy creatures who deserve loving homes after spending months serving the veterinary community. As a student of this program, I am appalled by the dismissive attitude taken toward the lives of these animals. After trying to seek a solution to the problem by approaching the program’s director, I was summarily insulted and brushed off.

If you have space, time, ability, and love enough for any of these animals, please get in touch with me so I can compile a list of contacts to present to the program’s director to prove that there are people wanting these critters.
Thank you: Foster Ephardt – sonofbastet@earthlink.net

Sad tidings and MOD POST [Sep. 4th, 2006|09:49 am]
For the keepers of many animals

I ask that posts with photos please be confined to Lj-cuts. One picture may be outside the Lj-cut, two if they are small. As to what constitutes small... I'll tell you if it's too big. Entries with many pictures and no cuts will be deleted. If you're having trouble with cutting, no worries. E-mail me (sonofbastet@earthlink.net) beforehand and I'll help you out.

Also. I meant to promote the community on the pet communities I frequent, but I have no energy as of late. If any of you would like to, go for it. I'll put the banner on the community info, so you can use it if you'd like.

Sad tidings:
My last week has been nightmarish. I lost three babies in a two-day period.

On Wednesday last, my rat Skandranon died.

He was two years, two months, and he'd been dying, but it still hit me hard.

Thursday, I went to check on my mouse, Colby Jack, and he was in his house, sleeping the forever sleep. We didn't know how old he was; he was a rescue. He was probably old, but I'll miss him so much. His cage was right next to my side of the bed, and now I wake up every morning and get sad because he's not in it anymore. I don't even have a picture of him-- we only got him a few weeks ago, and our camera's broken.

Then, not an hour after we buried him, I went to check on my budgie, Aya, who had been hurt but had been doing okay, and he was lying in the corner of the cage, clutching a bar near the bottom with one foot. He was only about six months old. He is survived by his brother, Sariel. I have one okay picture of him, but I can't find it right now.

So now we're down to 21.

Skandranon is survived by our hairless boy Yofee, who is now very lonely. We have an adult boy reserved for us at Pixie's World Rattery, but it may be a few weeks until he can come home, so Yofee's been getting a lot of extra attention. Our new rat, whose name will be changed but is currently MelvinCollapse )

To fill the void, we're thinking of getting an aquarium pet. A reptile, amphibian, insect, arachnid, or fish.

Jumping on the Bandwagon ... [Sep. 3rd, 2006|04:06 pm]
For the keepers of many animals

[mood |contentcontent]

Hey -

I joined a little while ago, and kind of forgot (the comms been so quiet..) but with the flood of intros, decided to add mine.

I don't have quite the zoo I'd like to, but atm we're living with relatives, and therefore have to abide by their rules. However, I do have quite a business of ferrets.

Ferrets!Collapse )

We have 8 right now, with Basilisk being our newest. We've had him for a little over a month.

In a few years, once the boy is done with school and we have our own place, we're going to have lots of pets. Within reason, of course. I don't want to turn into a hoarder, but I'd definitely be all about rescuing strays. We're contemplating fostering, too, but we attach real quick to animals, and we're not sure we could deal with the giving them up part.

So...hi, everyone!

My Zoo [Sep. 3rd, 2006|06:11 pm]

[mood |cheerfulcheerful]

I am a college student and I live in my own house with my boyfriend. We both are avid animal lovers and will rescue anyone in need. I am studying biology with the hope of going into vet medicine and working at our local zoo or wildlife rescue.
Here is my zoo.

Celeste (white kittie with patches) Steve my baby bengali. (both are fixed)

Marilyn and Karl our two guinea pigs. Both boys so no breeding.

My dog nala, and my two budgies Pookie (the green one) and Pixie (the blue one)

This is my kitten Possum (he is all white with an orange tail, ears and nose)

My rabbit Seymore and my baby lop bunny scampers.

And lastly the newest edition to our household, Albie the little rescue gerbil (see my lj for details).

Oh and we also have fish!

So what do you think? too many?
I love this community because I feel like I wont get jumped for having alot of animals. I believe that if I can take care of them and they all are able to go to the vet anytime they need then I should be able to have as many as I can afford and properly take care of. Thanks for this community!
PS: I am horrible with cuts, I just can't do them. I have tried and tried. If the mods need to make this into a cut is there anyway yall could do it for me?

Intro! [Aug. 16th, 2006|03:27 pm]
For the keepers of many animals

[Current Location |Reno]

I found a (small) but interesting group!

Due to my love of animals, I'm attempting a career as a vet.

I have many pets and people tell me I have too many! Allow me to introduce them!

Sun Sio - Grey male mouse.
Moussey - Pronounced like chocolate mousse. He's brown with a white spot on his forehead. He's partially blind and doesn't have any ears.

Ink-Eyes, Servant of Oni - Black/White female.
Gadget - Black/White female.
Isabel - Black/White female. She's much more vivid than the others.
Rockzilla - Brown/White female. (She's the rat in my icon. :3)
Razorflake - Albino female.
Capone - Black female.

One bright red betta named Vicious after the character of Cowboy Bebop.
Three zebra danios (no names...)
Three ghost shrimps (Gannon, Jesse, and James.)

If anyone is interested in pictures I can link a few of my rats, mice, and betta. My camera isn't good enough to take pictures of fast-moving zebra danios or hard-to-see shrimps.

I have an empty 10 gallon aquarium I plan on putting more fish in after the cycle is complete. (Too many to choose from, don't know which ones to pick!) I'd love to get a big tank and get a violet goby and a few friends at some point in time. I'd have dogs/cats/ferrets/skunks/chinchillas/degus/whatever if my landlord allowed pets of that nature. As long as I can defend that they're caged/aquarium pets and I don't ever let them out to play I can have them.

I want to dab into keeping reptiles as well. I'm thinking my first could be the Long-Tailed Grass Lizard. Most sites confirm that they're among the best for beginning reptile keepers.

Anyway, hello!

I LOVE MY ZOO! ^_^ [Aug. 8th, 2006|01:31 am]

[music |Fear of Dying-Jack Off Jill]

Hello! My name is Katie, but all my buddies 'round these parts call me Ix or Atagamay. You are most welcome to do so! ^_^

And me and my family have always had tons of pets.

The most we've ever had for a long extent of time were our five cats and two dogs. In addition to that, I've had a hamster, tons and tons of different fish at different times, and we once raised frogs from some tadpoles we took home from a camping trip.

Right now, we have one dog and four cats. Both the dog we have now and the two we used to have are/were Boxers. I grew up with them. Cutest dogs ever! ^__^

I'll post pics sometime, mmkay? :3
